Faith Statements

The St Andrew Confirmation students have to write a Faith Statement and an autobiography during their two years of studies.

Have you ever thought of writing a Faith Statement?

One of my daughters Faith Statements includes the following lines:

“I believe God is spectacular. The father, who is the creator. The son is Jesus who died for our sins. The Holy Spirit, who is always with us through baptism, Holy Communion and everyday life. God is always in my heart.

I believe the church is a big community. That people with all different talents come together to celebrate their religion. The people came together that believed and made their own community which they now call church.”

So I started thinking about my Faith Statement. I would start with one of my favorite Bible verses. Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Then I would state “my beliefs”,

• I believe in God, the Father Almighty

• I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord

• I believe in the Holy Spirit

• I believe in the holy catholic church

And onward…..

Then I’d add in some “growth statements”,

• Lord please let me not judge people based on their dress, faith and/or race

• Lord please help me grow daily and follow your lead

• Lord help me remember that fellowship, service ministry and overall sharing of my abilities supports my growth.

Wow! That was fun and enlightening. So everyone who reads this devotion should take a few minutes and think about their Faith Statement. Better yet, take a few minutes and write something down. You will find out that your one step closer to living in God’s image.

God bless you all.
