Luke 6:38 – Give, and it will be given to you

On Father’s Day I received a daily devotional book written by Jimmy Houston titled “Catch of the Day”.  While I’ve had daily devotional books before, none have ever kept me 100% engaged.  This devotional book has me looking ahead and it the first thing I read at the beginning of each day.  The devotions share a bible verse followed by one to three paragraphs about the verse.  Jimmy Houston a professional fisherman provides a story or parable in the first paragraph, and then relates this bible verse and story to our relationship with Jesus, our Lord Savior.

So why is this devotional book keeping my attention?  To start with, the book was given to me from Abbie my daughter.  Debbie and her thought it was just perfect for me, with the daily devotions and a fishing twist.  Secondly, I needed something more to focus my spiritual growth.  The tie with fishing (my favorite hobby) has supported that goal.  In addition, Natalie has been gone the whole summer at EWALU as a camp counselor.  It’s tough when one of your hatchling spreads their wings and starts flying on their own.  The daily devotional reminds me of her faith, our teaching to her over 18 years and how much she’s developed into a beautiful young adult ready for the world.

So what can you take from this weekly devotion?  Find that means to connect with our Lord Jesus Christ daily.  It could be a daily devotional book.  Go out and give your time to a charity and/or support a service project.  Participate in a bible study.  It doesn’t matter which way is chosen, but find a means to grow your faith daily.  God please you all.
