Parable OF the Barren Fig Tree

Luke 13:6-9, Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and found none.  So he said to the gardener, ‘See here!  For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and still I find none.  Cut it down!  Why should it be wasting the soil?’  He replied, ‘Sir, let it alone for one more year, until I dig around it and put manure on it.  If it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.”

Does each of us need a little manure around our feet to grow?

During the Lenten season we grow in faith, with the understanding that Jesus Christ is preparing himself to die …… and arise for us!
No, we don’t need manure.  We need the grace of God.  We need to cultivate our relationship with the Holy Spirit. We need to understand that God and Jesus Christ forgive our sins.

So are you searching for the Holy Spirit? How about preparing a weekly devotion, attending bible studies or adult forums, and/or partaking in Lenten suppers and service on Wednesdays to ignite the embers within you?  Have you ever thought of joining a church committee or the congregation council?  It can be as simple as reading a daily devotion, as a friend and I talked about last Sunday at church.

For all my friends / family at St Andrew Lutheran Church, cultivate your relationship with the Holy Spirit.  There are no bounds and/or limits to your abilities with the grace of God.

Your friend in Christ,
Steve Haller
